Hi everyone, my name is Nichole and I’m excited about going to the upcoming World Youth Day in Rio. It’s rather difficult to express my enthusiasm in mere words but I guess… I’ll give it a go. I’m not entirely sure of why and how I came to make this decision of going for this pilgrimage but when God has a plan, it always has its own way of working out. Right?

Preparing for this spiritual journey allows me to reflect on what I have, who I am and what I want etc. It also reminds me of what I am blessed with and of what I can share with others. On this journey I would love to know more about God and in turn know myself better; to understand of his purpose for me and to allow him to work his wonders through me. I have always believed in the power of love and the simple acts of sharing. For example, a gesture of a hug to a troubled person can provide comfort in ways that you wouldn’t have imagined.

Just as Mother Teresa says, “ God doesn’t ask us to do great things. He asks us to do small things with great love.” And I hope that through this spiritual journey, I would share my simple love with everyone; starting by the closest one I can get to and hope that with God’s help it will send ripples through to many others.

This is what I hope to strive for and I challenge all of you, especially the young people, to join me in this cause. To just simply do a random act of kindness for someone this coming weeks and feel God’s amazing love for each and every one of us.  It is through our actions that we can teach others the power of love and God’s presence. I hope by sharing this little vision I have for this pilgrimage I am taking, I have given u a peek at what I’m hoping to achieve and I ask for you to please pray for me.

I’ll be looking forward to sharing my experiences when I return from this pilgrimage.

Nichole is a youth leader from St Thomas More, Parish at Bateman.
