On the 7th of November 15 teams battled it out for the coveted prize of the best in Trivia in the Archdiocese of Perth. Close to 150 budding quiz masters both young and old gathered at the Disciples of Jesus Auditorium in Osborne Park to take part in the Embrace the Grace fundraiser event, Quiz Night.
This annual fundraising project hopes to create awareness of Embrace the Grace Youth Conference (ETG) which will be held at the picturesque, New Norcia from the 9th to the 13th of December. Another objective of the Quiz Night is to help raise funds for young people from across Perth Archdiocese to attend this five day youth conference.
The event was fun and entertaining with a lot of high energy. It was very competitive with all teams vying for the main prize.
Kim Hodgson, Catholic Youth Ministry Staff and Event Coordinator said, “The annual fundraising event for Embrace the Grace (ETG) youth conference is always a nice opportunity for the community to get together and enjoy a night of entertainment and fun in support of this conference.”
Masters of Ceremony Daryl Pranata was an instant hit with the audience, with his charismatic charm and his ability to engage with the crowd.
A highlight of the evening was the over 50 prizes that were up for grabs for the minor and major raffle draw. Major raffle prizes included – Lunch for eight at Parliament house valued at $600, $250 Coles Myer voucher and a Swan River Cruise for two. Silent auction items were a signed Perth Glory jersey and a stunning silver bracelet. All minor raffle prizes were also of high standard and enjoyed by the winners.
The raffle prizes and silent auction items were donated generously by many individuals, companies and friends.
“We are grateful to all businesses who kindly donated prizes and all the volunteers who tirelessly worked behind the scenes to make the night a success especially the Thornlie Youth leaders and Michael Masolin,” Kim said.
The eventual winners of the Quiz Night was table 13, in which individual members received a bottle of wine, a box of Lindt chocolates and $20.00 gift voucher from Myer.
With a great attendance on the evening plus record breaking raffle ticket sales and high bids during the silent auction, the event raised a total amount of $3500.00.
All funds will go towards sponsoring young people to help cover conference costs and subsidise registration fees for young people to attend Embrace the Grace.
It was indeed an evening to remember and we’re looking forward to finding out which table in 2016 will win the title of Quiz Night champions.
