CYM ‘Illuminate’ Ball 2013 – Reflection

by Liam Staltari

Having worked with Vinnies Youth, to me the ‘Illuminate Ball’ really emphasises the vibrancy and breadth of support which the Society receives from the local community, and from young Catholics in particular. As the Saint Vincent de Paul Society’s Youth branch is anchored in the ability of young Australians to help their contemporaries in need, that so many people were willing to take part throughout the night speaks of the potential for youth to be a force of immense positive change. However, it was the raw energy of the night – the chance to catch up with friends, to meet new people, and to simply have fun, while still supporting a fantastic cause – which really defined the Ball.

Catholic Youth Ministry Perth truly stressed the fact that young Catholics can continue to live out their faith in our present day, and that this can be anything but a dull experience! The combination of the brilliant venue and great company – with such a diverse range of people from parishes across Perth – ensured that it was definitely a night to remember, and the funds raised by ‘Illuminate’ will no doubt go a long way towards advancing the cause of social justice within our local community!
