Youth leaders from both the North and South of the river gathered on the 18th of January at the Catholic Pastoral Centre in Highgate, to be prepared and equipped for what’s to come in 2014.
Hosted by the Catholic Youth Ministry Perth, the annual youth leadership training consisted of a series of talks and workshops covering multiple areas on Youth Ministry. In particular, elaborating on the document ‘Anointed and Sent – an Australian Vision for Catholic Youth Ministry’ by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference.
The sessions in the morning given by Anita and Vincent, explained the various roles in youth ministry, why youth ministry, and most importantly the area of policy for working with young people.
The afternoon schedule included hands-on and practical workshops on music and liturgy, how to give a talk or testimony, event management and promotion, plus a fun- filled session on games and activities to use in youth ministry.
A critical part of the training day was when the youth leaders were divided according to which region their parish or group was located, either North or South of the river. In this particular period, the participants had opportunities to share their joys and struggles as leaders and encouraged each other in their mission of bringing the youth closer to Jesus.
The day concluded with a network dinner, a time for the leaders to be in an environment where they can continue to network, express their ideas and share a meal with fellow youth leaders.
As a follow up, the staff of CYM will be facilitating an on-going monthly leaders training and workshop in various locations across Archdiocese to continue to equip the youth leaders in Perth.
