Catholic Youth Ministry is excited to announce that The University of Notre Dame is our platinum sponsor and host for Veritas WA Youth Festival 2017.
“The Notre Dame community is thrilled” explains Manager of Campus Ministry Tom Gourlay, “the prospect of bringing so many young people onto the campus from around WA for the Veritas festival is sensational. Veritas has grown over the last few years to showcase the vibrancy of the Church in this great state, and the young people are given great opportunities to encounter a wide variety of expressions of the faith.”
Notre Dame’s Fremantle campus is an excellent location for Veritas. The sprawling campus in the heart of West End Fremantle is nestled between coffee shops and courtyards and combines charming historic buildings with modern technologically equipped facilities.
Veritas event organiser Eliza Matthys says “It’s great to be working with Notre Dame to host Veritas Youth Festival. The new venue provides new opportunities for the event to reach, impact, and connect young people. Notre Dame and Veritas are Catholic institutions that share similar goals, in nurturing the development of young people, providing them with the space to encounter Christ, inspiring them to participate in the life of the Church, and preparing them to enrich our world today.”
Veritas Youth festival is set to be an amazing weekend. The Festival kicks off with the Friday Night Rally featuring priest and internationally acclaimed artist Fr Rob Galea. Three more Rallies take place across the weekend and include live music from different bands and music groups as well as passionate and vibrant keynote speakers.

For the first time, Veritas 2017 will include a Teens and Young Adults Stream, opening the event up to younger teenagers and tailoring activities to meet young people where they are. While teenagers break off into their action-packed sessions, Young Adults attend workshops. Participants can choose 3 of 24 different workshop options, choosing a topic that’s relevant and interesting to them. [A sneak peek into some of the topics: I Refuse to Believe – Faith Versus Science; Deal breakers In Relationships; Having a Personal Relationship with Christ; Stress, Mental health and Well-Being; plus many more!
The Saturday afternoon Discussion Forums give Teens and Young Adults the opportunity to ask questions, give input, and discuss topics with their peers. This is followed by the much anticipated Mighty Fest where participants can visit different expo stalls, enjoy festival activities and games, win great prizes, feast on delicious feed and soak in the ambience with live music.
The festival continues into an evening of prayer with priests available for reconciliation and culminates with the final Mass on Sunday. These are powerful and important aspects of Veritas with hundreds of young people joining together in prayer.
“It’s such an action packed weekend!”, says Eliza “ I’m looking forward to it all, but in particular this year I’m looking forward to sitting down in a tree lined courtyard at Notre Dame over afternoon tea as I get to know other young people.”
