CONFERENCE REVIEW:
Over 70 young delegates attended the WYD 1 year Reunion Conference. It was an amazing 4 days & 4 nights of great speakers, an amazing music team, fellowship and a chance to break open the teachings of Pope Benedict XVI’s 2009 WYD message and ‘Spe Salvi’ Encyclical. The attendee’s came from north and south of the river, from Parishes and communities and movements, even from as far as Pinjarra, Narrogin & Katanning.
From young speakers in Michael Connelly and Tom Gourlay, through to our Bishops and Priests who joined us, the HOPE conference was awash with great messages and challenges of how we as young people can be the ‘HOPE’ for today’s society. We place our HOPE in Christ who guides us through our everyday challenges.
At HOPE, the Perth CYM office launched its new patrons ‘Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati’ & ‘Blessed Mary MacKillop’. The Friday night opened the eyes of all gathered to the lives of these two great patrons! Through their struggles and personal challenges, their faith is what helped them through it all and we can relate so strongly to their lives. The challenge now is to see if we can be more like them in our own lives!
A combined music team of Mariusz from Leederville, Lenny from Morley, Fran and Nicolle from Whitfords, Matt & Ludwig from Bateman, and Zac from Impact were a ‘hit’ with everyone in leading praise & worship, and music for Daily Mass throughout the conference. One delegate commented ‘Loved the music, it was awesome, awesome and AWESOME!’ When music is truly seen as a form of prayer and a way we can connect with God, it moves your heart and mind to a spiritual level. It was great to pray with this fantastic music team everyday.
In reflection of the conference, the delegates have been emailing back their thoughts and feedback: “I said to a friend the other day, I could have done the HOPE conference for a whole month rather than 1 week” & “I wish HOPE conference would last forever!” and it can… get involved with Church youth activities around town, check out all the details on the CYM website and in our newsletter. Drop in to the CYM office at anytime to have a chat, volunteer and catch up with people.
That Sunday night concluded with the July Sunday Sesh ‘You got to pray, just to make it today’. This night at Greenwood Parish gathered over 85 young people together to hear Norma Woodcock share on the importance of prayer. The night ended with the HOPE music team reforming again spontaneously to jam the night away.
