If you are counting down to Madrid WYD 2011 – it’s now 1 1/2 YEARS TO GO!! You can keep updated with the information through our newsletter & your local Parish Youth Rep. If you are interested in travelling to Madrid for WYD11 what should you be doing???
1. Start saving your money or fundraising – the estimated cost of a 2 week trip for WYD is $5,000 based on a group size of 40 people & includes post travel option. If you are intending to go, I would aim to save atleast $5,500 & you would have to have the money saved in the next 18 months. This means save (or raise) approx $300 month for the next 18 months. If you leave your saving plan for any longer, you’ll have to save $400-$500 per month to reach your goal!
2. Come along to the monthly Sunday Sesh’s & start learning your Spanish.

World Youth Day 2011 is a Catholic youth festival expected to be held over seven days from August 15 – 21, 2011 in Madrid, Spain. Pope Benedict XVI revealed the location of the event at the final Mass in Australia at Sydney's Royal Randwick Racecourse during World Youth Day 2008. It will be the second time that Spain will host the event. World Youth Day 1989 was held from August 15 – 20, 1989 at Santiago de Compostela.

Towards World Youth Day in Madrid, 2011
WYD 2009: The theme of WYD held on Palm Sunday 2009 in Rome and in every diocese, is: "We have set our hope on the living God" (1Tim 4:10).
WYD 2010: On the following day, which will also be held diocesan level on Palm Sunday 2010, is "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" (Mk 10:17).
WYD 2011: The XXVI World Youth Day 2011 to be held in Madrid, will be "Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith" (cf. Col 2:7).
What dynamics continue these themes?
Each theme has its own logic. The first, in 2009, speaks of hope. Pope invites young people to enter the real hope, the "great hope" that only Christ can give. And this hope we receive in the Church. This is vital for young people in today's social and economic crisis.
In principle it is time the youth of Hope by definition is the time of project and initial training for entry into life. Moreover, it belongs to the young Christian mission to be witnesses of hope to his contemporaries. And finally, because in all ages, society has benefited from the contribution of young people.
Just look at the impact of young monks in medieval Europe or the work of a St. Francis of Assisi. More recently, the young Frederic Ozanam founded the Conference of St. Vincent de Paul at the age of twenty years. Many young people have participated in the life of our world. They did it because they had great hope.
The theme of the 2010 WYD speaks of a rich young man who asked Jesus: "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" In 2010, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the beautiful letter of John Paul II to young people (1985). And this letter was the comment to this meeting of the rich young man - in a way that represents all young people - with Jesus. The question relates to action: "What should I do?” This issue will lead to compromise in the Christian world. The purpose of this commitment is "to obtain eternal life." So understand that this issue is the extension of the precedent on the hope of eternal life.
Finally, the theme of WYD in Madrid in 2011, leading to the roots of faith in Christ. Pope encourages young people to regularly nurture a Christian faith that is mature, solid.. Encourages them to form, to "give an account of the hope that is in them." It is therefore a path which the Pope offers to young Christians to Madrid, during three years of preparation.
