Preparing for the Holy Spirit with the Whitfords Youth

Article by: Michael Connelly

As the Easter season drew to a close, students from across the Archdiocese were preparing for the coming of the Holy Spirit in Pentecost.  A gifted team of seven youth leaders from Whitfords Parish and the surrounding areas were lucky enough to share in part of the journey with the confirmation candidates of Whitfords Catholic Primary School, where they facilitated the Year 6’s Confirmation Retreat earlier this May.

The youth leaders led the 56 students throughout the day, and guided them to a deeper understanding of what they were soon to receive in their Confirmation.  Sessions featured music, games and large group activities that later transitioned into the leader’s presentations and personal testimonies of their own faith journey. Every student was also given an opportunity to express their personal thoughts and feelings after each session during the small group discussion, which was facilitated by the leadership team. The day was concluded in a beautiful way with Mass, which was celebrated by the local priest of Our Lady of the Mission Parish, Father Joseph Tran.

It was a fantastic retreat with lots of fun and activities, and a real sense of a deepening of faith for both the participants and the leaders.
