Over 30 youth and young adults with their parents gathered at St Columba’s parish, Bayswater last 27th of June for a World Youth Day 2016 information evening presented by CYM full time youth minister, Vincent Haber.
The evening started with a pot-luck dinner as different families brought in a variety of dishes native to their country. From pastas, to fried rice and Mexican food, the guests were not disappointed with the amount of food available to try. The meal time gave the parents and the youth an opportunity to get to know each other and start the conversation about this massive pilgrimage to Poland next year.
Vincent Haber from CYM gave a dynamic and engaging presentation on the two packages Catholic Youth Ministry Perth is offering the youth of the Archdiocese. He presented the different places and pilgrim sites that group will visit, accompanied by his own personal images taken from his previous familiarisation trip to Poland with other pilgrim coordinators around Australia a week prior to the event.
The night concluded with a Q & A, and 15 young people from St Columba’s Parish keen and interested to come to World Youth Day in Poland next year.
Parish priest, Fr Minh-Thuy affirmed the young people of his support and will rally the rest of the Bayswater community to also assist with the young people’s fundraising effort.
The evening was a success with both the youth and the parents fired up and excited for World Youth Day next July in Krakow, Poland.
