Jesus Youth is a network of small but vibrant groups of young people which organizes regular events and retreats for young people. Jesus Youth team at Queen of Apostles Church started an event called “Youth Vibes” to connect with the intelligent young minds of today through discussions, entertainments, games, music and talks.
The second Youth Vibes was held on the 13th of July at Fr. Luemann Hall at the Queen of Apostles parish. The event was based around the topic Peer Pressure. There were two videos on both the long-term and short-term effects of peer pressure, and how people are affected by it later on in their lives. A few youth leaders performed a skit about peer pressure, highlighting the different ways we get pressured by peers.
Vincent, a motivational speaker from CYM (Catholic Youth Ministry,) came to deliver the session on peer pressure. He spoke on how even in our day-to-day lives; we are being unknowingly pressured into decisions both bad and good. His session ended with a game “Maze of Life” which focused on building skills of teamwork and leadership. After a short break the group split into teams to do a role-play activity. Each team was given a scenario of what they would do given a certain situation in which they were pressured by peers, which they had to act out. This was followed by a session with Praise and Worship Music.
Youth Vibes was very successful, because, as teens, all were able to really relate to the topic of peer pressure. It was fun meeting new people and catching up with old friends who all shared one thing in common: a love for God. Here’s hoping we have many more Youth Vibes programs in the future. The great numbers, enthusiasm, and positive feedback from our audience left our leaders feeling even more motivated for the future Jesus Youth events to come.
