In ministry, we just don’t know how to say ‘no’. It is very easy for us to keep giving but sometimes we forget about ourselves. You cannot give what you don’t have.
Sometimes we feel isolated, lonely and unsupported. While we may feel this way, we must always remember there are people who understand what we are going through.
We should never sacrifice our health, sleep, diet, and exercise. These are the areas in our lives that keep us physically fit to serve in ministry.
This could be a sign of several things. First, it could be a sign of spiritual desolation. Second, it could be a sign that God is doing something new. Third, it could be a sign that we have let our passion slip away.
As it is quite easy to neglect ourselves physically, it is just as easy as neglecting ourselves spiritually. We tend to justify this by saying to ourselves that we are doing the work of God and that constitutes as praying.
After identifying the causes of burnout, the next step is prevention. Stay tuned next week for the second part – 5 Remedies for Ministry Burnout.
