The annual welcome for first year students to their universities culminates in a festival O’day on campus. CYM has been setting up stalls at the various campuses to meet and greet new students, connecting them either with CYM or the Catholic Chaplaincy on campus.
This year for a fun competition, students have been able to take a ‘selfie’ picture with our life-size cardboard cut-out image of Pope Francis or other fun faith banners. The students can go in the running to win a $50 gift voucher by simply posting the picture on the ‘Catholic Youth Ministry Perth’ page, ‘liking’ the page & tagging themselves in photos uploaded from the O’days. The draw will take place on the Wednesday night after the last O’day & will be drawn after Holy Hour. Entries close Tues 4th March 5pm.
It’s an exciting opportunity for students to connect with new people on campus, to have social and faith based opportunities with the various chaplaincies and Catholic Campus groups. If you missed us on O’day, here’s how you can connect with these awesome groups on campus:
CURTIN – For those students at Curtin University – we were unable to receive permission for a stall space at the Curtin O’day, however we have news of a NEW Catholic Chaplaincy group which the guild has approved on campus. MURDOCH – Fr Cyprian Shikokoti is the chaplain for Murdoch & MUCC activities include a range of social & spiritual gatherings. The regular spiritual activities include: Weekly Tuesday Mass in the worship centre at 12.30pm followed by lunch; Silent Prayer Tues & Thurs 9 – 10am, Bible Study Tues 11.15am –12.15pm & Thurs 2 – 3pm.
UNDA – Campus Ministry is your connection point for the main faith based activities. You can contact the Campus Ministry staff through Student Services office & Stacie O’Neil in the office. Every Tues 10am they host ‘Plunged-in’ FREE tea & coffee with a chance for discussions & meeting other students, just outside the Chapel in Bateman Courtyard. ‘Love & Responsibility’ is a program which will be hosted on campus Monday nights starting 31st March 6:30pm – open to all students (not just at Notre Dame). Mass times: Daily 12:35pm except for Tues 8:30am. Sunday evening Mass 6pm with Fr Andrew Chen OMI. Keep an eye out for the weekly emails from Campus Ministry too.

UWA – The UWA Catholic Society (UCS) has a mixture of activities for students throughout the year. They also have daily Mass at 12 in the Chapel, Monday to Thursday followed by food. They might also be kicking back in the UCS clubroom at 1pm on Tuesdays. In case it is your first time, the Chapel is on the ground floor of the Law link building, with the entrance through the Law courtyard, North of the Oak Lawn, while the Clubroom is on the 1st floor of Cameron Hall, above the Tav and through the Leisure clubroom.
