Growing up as a Catholic was difficult at times for me. Society tells us to buy things to make us happy, and shows us images of what we should look like. Wealth and fame are seen as the highest goals in our society. The values of society often go against what we are taught as Catholics and can make living the faith challenging and sometimes just exhausting. It’s especially hard when your friends can’t understand why you are Catholic and believe in God. It often made me wonder why I believed what I believed.
And yet. It’s hard, exhausting and challenging but so rewarding. There’s a reason there are so many Catholics all around the world. Having a relationship with Jesus, being able to share in his victories makes it all worth it. While others are trying to fill a void inside themselves with money, fame and objects, we have an all powerful God who helps us and guides us through life. We know that we are made for so much greater than this world alone. I find joy in having a relationship with Jesus that cannot be bought, and is the most precious thing in my life.
