Hi everyone! My name is Angela, I’m 21 years old and I am from the Vietnamese Community. I have been a part of my youth group for over 10 years and am still there serving as a youth leader. Aside from being a youth leader, I am in my third year of uni, studying to become a primary school teacher!
ACYF changed me and gave me a new perspective
I honestly don’t remember too much of my life before ACYF; though I do remember attending mass, listening to the weekly Gospels and receiving the Eucharist every week. However, I did it out of habit and family expectations not because I wanted to. Attending ACYF changed me and gave me a new perspective.
The first ACYF I attended was ACYF13 hosted in Melbourne. I was 14 at the time! I honestly didn’t know what to expect, I was more excited at the travelling aspect rather than the festival. Looking back, I am so glad I went, as it was the catalyst for me to attend the following three ACYFs. No matter how many ACYFs I attend, there is always something different and new at the next one.
Without ACYF I don’t know where or who I would be today
Having attended ACYF19, and being given the opportunity to participate in the festival, it really opened my eyes as to how I can continue to develop my faith journey and serve God. It reminded me why I chose to become a youth leader; wanting to spread God’s word and love to others.
I was able to not only further my relationship with God but also deepen my understanding and knowledge to bring back and share with my community and youth group. I find myself growing closer to God with every day that passes, and am forever thankful for ACYF, as without it I don’t know where or who I would be today.
