Six youth leaders plus a CYM full time youth minister made for an amazing, productive and nourishing weekend at beautiful Margaret River on the weekend of 3rd to the 6th of July.
The main objective of the weekend was for the youth leaders of Sacred Heart Parish, Thornlie to strengthen their relationship and develop a vision and mission statement for the youth of the parish community.
Friday evening was an evening of relaxation, games and getting to know you activities. The sincerity on their faces as they shared more personal things about each other, thus building trust within the group was truly evident.
Saturday morning started with a session led by Vincent Haber from CYM, focused on the topic of leadership. This was then followed by an integral part of the weekend, which was the writing and developing of the vision and mission statement for youth ministry in the Parish.
The difficult task of coming up with the vision and mission statement exhausted the youth leaders, which was perfect for a ‘mystery tour ‘, which was planned by one of the youth leaders after lunch.
The tour composed of visiting various iconic places around Margaret River which included the cheese and chocolate factories, a winery, a famous olive oil boutique plus sunset at Prevelly Beach. The day was concluded by a dinner night out at the local Settlers Bistro for an evening of laughter and personal testimonies.
Sunday morning’s tasked was to plan out the youth events for the rest of the year plus the person in charge. This activity showed the dedication and the commitment of the six youth leaders from Thornlie as they accepted roles and responsibilities with eagerness and joy.
The weekend brought about a sense of fellowship and camaraderie from the six youth leaders. With an impressive vision and mission statement completed plus a whole lot of exciting events planned out for the rest of the year, 2015 will absolutely be a fruitful year and one that will set the tone for youth ministry at Sacred Heart for years to come.
