On the 11th of February the Catholic Youth Ministry Staff and over 50 youth leaders from parishes and groups gathered for the commissioning mass with Bishop Don Sproxton at the Catholic Pastoral Centre, St Therese of Lisieux Chapel in Highgate.
Parish Youth Leaders from both north and south of the river such as Clarkson, Whitfords, Canningvale and Bateman were well represented at the event. The Youth Mission Team of Disciples of Jesus were also present during the event.
Bishop Don Sproxton during his homily commended the work of the Diocesan youth leaders, and encouraged them to continue to evangelise the young people of Perth and spread the Gospel of Jesus. He also asked them to be prayerful and seek the Lord for guidance in their ministry.
The commissioning mass was followed by a celebration and a feast prepared by youth volunteer and caterer Peta Hayward. The food was a hit, and the youth leaders took the opportunity to connect with one another, get contact details and share stories of their ministry.
Another significant news on the evening was the announcement of the CYM Bible College Scholarship recipients.
Yearly, Catholic Youth Ministry Perth provides financial support to youth leaders in the Archdiocese to study Youth Ministry and Christian Leadership at Acts 2 Bible College.
We would like to congratulate Lauren Thong of Canningvale Parish for obtaining a full scholarship, with Alwin Liew of Bentley, Matt Woodford of Canningvale and Kim Hodgson of CYM who received partial scholarship.
The evening was just the beginning of many more gathering of youth leaders across the Archdiocese in 2015.
