I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to attend ACYMC (Australian Catholic Youth Ministry Convention) in Sydney last month. It was one of the best experience I’ve had in my time as a youth minister.
I had never been to a youth ministry convention before, and never thought I would end up in one.
The greatest lesson that God reminded me is that I am not alone in this journey of life. Just as He has called me to leave my engineering job into youth ministry, He had also called many others from different backgrounds.
I had been on a full-time role as Youth Ministry Worker for almost a year, and one of the challenges I faced was the struggle of not being adequate in my ministry. Many times I look down on myself and believed that there’s someone out there who can do the job better than I can.
However, through my encounter with other passionate and inspiring young leaders, I was reminded that God did not call me because I am the best person for the job. In fact, yes, I do have plenty of weaknesses and incapability, but that’s not why I am in my current role.
I grew in fear when I saw people much better than me, but I knew at that moment I was again relying on my own strength.
God wanted to remind me that I am where I am today because I said ‘yes’ to Him, and that is enough and it is important for me to keep relying on Him who continuously calls me.
When I started listening to the stories of new friends whom I met at ACYMC, I learnt that we are all unique in our callings, yet we are one in our mission.

Being okay with our limitations allows God to pour graces into our life. It is He who gives me strength.
When I stopped indulging on other people’s gifts and talents and just focus on what God has given me, my eyes started to open and saw His wonders.
We are all created to complement each other, to live together as one. I learnt, that all God wanted of me was to journey together with other young people. To disciple and strive for Holiness.
Just like many of the disciples and saints in the past, none were perfect.
I hear God clearly reminding me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
And as St.Paul said, “I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9.
God truly doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.
I thank God for the opportunities and challenges that arise in my life. God is good.T
