The Sacred Heart Youth Ministry team officially launched their 2016 ministry last Saturday 12th of April, with the leaders and youth participants ready to grow and flourish for what is already a busy year ahead.
The evening started with mass, where the youth leaders (Brydon Ring, Senaida D’Souza, Theresa Beard, and Travis D’Souza) informed the parish of the group’s vision and mission for youth ministry, and upcoming events with CYM.
Here is our vision: “To foster and maintain faith within the young adults of the Sacred Heart Community by building strong relationships guided by Christ’s teaching.”
After mass, the leaders proceeded to begin with their youth event for the month – a social fellowship event. Aside from the weekly Lenten Program, this was the youth ministry’s first official event for 2016. The event began with everyone gathering together in the parish hall, with plenty pizzas, chatter, and meeting new people.
Following on from the dinner, the youth leaders ran two games for the youth to interact and engage, encouraging participation, and teaching the rest of the group about themselves.
Once these fun (and competitive) games concluded, a panel involving the leaders was formed. This panel was questioned by the youth members to reveal more about the leaders, and what the leaders want to see happen in the future of youth ministry. It was a combination of friendly banter, and serious contemplations. Once this Q&A session concluded, one final game was played, and everyone competitively participate to end the night on a high note. Although the night was to finish at 9, the conversation between the youth continued longer into the night, indicating the excitement and buzz that the members hold going into 2016.
Sacred Heart Youth Ministry’s April event will be Veritas, whilst the leaders are busy continuing their Lenten program, and their fundraising dinner dance in April.
