On the 29th of January, 48 parish elected Youth Ambassadors attended the first Youth Ambassadors’ meeting since their Commissioning Mass last November 2018. In the meeting, hosted by Catholic Youth Ministry, Youth Ambassadors learned about the importance of their role in championing the cause of youth ministry within their local parishes.
The main focus on the night was explaining the roles Youth Ambassadors play in local parishes. As this is a new role, an emphasis was made between the difference between a Youth Ambassador and a youth leader to provide a clear understanding of their place in the Church.
In addition, a Youth Ambassador does not need to be a young person; they are one who has the passion for advocating and champions the youth ministry within their parishes. Likewise, the role of a Youth Ambassador in a parish that has an active youth group will be different from a parish that hardly has any young people.
During the night, different scenarios were given to Youth Ambassadors as an interactive activity. Youth Ambassadors were also encouraged to do local commissioning within their parish to build their profile within the community. The night ended well with the attendees having a better understanding of their role as Youth Ambassadors.
The next meeting will be on the 6th June, Thursday 6.30 pm – 8:00 pm.
